Shane C Richards
Accepted to the Chateau d’Orquevaux Artists & Writers Residency in Champagne-Ardenne, France for 2026.
Recipient of a Denis Diderot Grant.
Patron of the arts.
Recognized as an influential figure in postmodernist poetry, Shane has been actively writing for over fifty years, driven by a steadfast commitment to leaving a lasting poetic legacy. Originally from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, he completed his primary and high school education locally before enlisting in the Australian Navy at the age of fifteen. During his nine years of service aboard eighteen ships and bases, including four overseas deployments, Shane began documenting his experiences through journaling, providing a formative outlet for self-expression.
Following his military career, Shane faced notable challenges during his transition to civilian life. In 2009, he released three coffee table books of poetry, followed by a hardcover collection, The Poet, comprising 121 poems in 2010. In 2024, The Poet was published in a revised edition, and in 2026, Shane released Infinite Destinies along with an illustrated poetry book, 1976, in collaboration with Sunshine Coast artist Kyan De Vere. This latter work offers poetic reflections on his decade-long experiences with mental health admissions linked to his military background and has been translated into both Italian and Ukrainian. The Arrangement Of A Poetic Memoir was also released in 2026 and has been translated into Italian.
Shane resides and continues to write on Bribie Island, situated off Australia's east coast.
